Liz Claiborne Moves to JC - 4D.com Case Study
03/01/05 NYC - Liz Claiborne, Inc. has been turning heads since it was founded in 1976. With an ever-fresh
twist on style, sumptuous fabrics, colors and cuts to flaunt, Liz Claiborne is always on the
verge of another beautiful season. And the company doesn’t stop at its own chic Claiborne
lines. Its brands also include Juicy Couture, Ellen Tracy, Laundry by Shelli Segal, and Lucky
Brand. Liz Claiborne even holds an exclusive license to produce the men’s and women’s
DKNY® Jeans and DKNY® Active collections, as well as CITY DKNY® women’s sportswear.
Plainly, this company is a formidable fashion force.
But to keep on top of the retailer scene, Liz Claiborne moved to a behind-the-scenes project
management system called Job Central. Designed by Luc Devar at LD Consulting, a
developer of cutting edge 4th Dimension business and productivity solutions, Job Central
is now integral in Liz Claiborne’s Creative Resources, Multimedia, and E-commerce departments.
Customized to the company’s unique needs, Job Central facilitated the Creative
Resources and Multimedia departments’ migration from manual to electronic workflow
systems, improved communications across divisions, and accelerated financial reporting by
eliminating manual calculations.
The application is essential to creating reports. It codes and records batch invoices,
accounts for and reconciles costs, performs line item and workload analysis, supports a
photo shoot calendar and image use, allocates for freelance work as well as travel and
operational expenses. Job Central also manages for E-commerce the life cycle of products
and collateral, from conception to posting, on three of the company’s websites. Used for
tracking jobs and their statuses, Job Central easily enfolds new users into Liz Cliaborne’s
workflow system.
And this 4D-based solution has certainly borne fruit. According to reports of improvement
since Luc Devar put Job Central in place, Liz Claiborne has noted task cycle time reductions
at an impressive 80 to 98 percent – proving again the axiom that change can be a beautiful
thing!
